In Sinw<em>r&#8217;s view, the escalation of the G<\/em>za campaign into a regional war would overwhelm Israel and isolate it from allies.<br>Though Iran is not willing to risk the collapse of its regime and its regional security investments to make gains for Pal<em>stine, it may come to Hezb<\/em>llah&#8217;s rescue if its most prized possession is directly threatened &#8211; and this could be one path to regional war Sinw*ar is hoping for by prolonging the war.<br>Iran&#8217;s asymmetrical security architecture is not designed to survive conventional warfare against stronger adversaries, but to maintain the ability to fight low-intensity conflicts from a safe distance, beyond its borders. For Iran, projecting power and creating disruption is a way to sustain its regional influence. Thus, when Iran&#8217;s proxies draw it into a direct confrontation rather than deter attacks on its terrain, it signals that its strategy has failed.<br>This is precisely why Netanyahu, who believes has the upper hand within a closing window of opportunity, may seek a widened and prolonged war with Iran. Military planners in Israel recognize the encirclement by Iran and the long-term existential threat posed by its proxies.<br>With the U.S. providing defense, Netanyahu may believe that now is the time to address these threats once and for all by taking the fight directly to Iran. If this allows Israel to permanently reconfigure the region&#8217;s security landscape to its advantage and remove entrenched obstacles to its political integration in the Arab world, some U.S. stakeholders may also see more value in war than in limited peace.<br>For now, Joe Biden has stated that his administration will not give up on brokering a deal before November. Yet the Cairo peace talks, in which the U.S. invested significant diplomatic effort and Iran delayed its anticipated reprisal to protect, have failed.
