the editor
It’s insane how far we’ve come. In 2019, I was just like many of you. A student completing his studies as an interior architect at the Lebanese University in Beirut, and an outsider to politics, alienated by its dysfunction. Then October 17 happened. It was my rebellious generation’s political awakening. A year of euphoric and tiring protests later, August 4 shattered Beirut and broke our hearts. Many lost loved ones, homes, businesses, and most importantly, hope. Despair dominated. My generation’s protest against Lebanon’s violent politics was expressed by disengagement. October 17 transformed our opposition into sudden interest. Polyblog was born out of this very shift and the anger that followed it. During the blackouts of post-apocalyptic Beirut, and in the unbearable heat of summer and the pressure of collapse, the idea for this platform was born. 5 years later, we owe our evolution all to you. Keep caring.
جنون لوين وصلنا! بسنة 2019، كنت متل كتار من جيلي. طالب بكلية الفنون الجميلة والعمارة بالجامعة اللبنانية، عم بدرس هندسة داخلية، والسياسة كانت بالنسبة إلي شي بعيد. كنت متل كتار، محبَط منها ومن كل شي كانت تمثّله. بعدين إجت 17 تشرين. بهيداك النهار، وعى جيل كامل سياسياً. جيل قرر يرفع صوته ويطالب بلبنان أحسن. وبعد سنة من التظاهرات، بكل الحماس والتعب والأمل يلي حملته، إجا 4 آب… وهزّ بيروت وكسر قلوبنا. ناس كتير خسرت أحبابها، وبيوتها، وشغلها. بس يمكن أكبر خسارة كانت خسارة الأمل. وقتها، كتار من جيلي قرروا يبتعدوا عن السياسة. أما نحنا، فصار العكس. 17 تشرين حوّل رفضنا للسياسة إلى اهتمام فيها، والغضب إلى رغبة نفهم أكتر ونشارك أكتر. ومن هيدا التحوّل، ومن هيدا الغضب، خلقت Polyblog. بأيام العتمة، وانقطاع الكهرباء، وحرّ الصيف الخانق، وبين ضغط الانهيار يلي كان حاضر بكل تفصيل من حياتنا، ولدت فكرة هالمنصة. واليوم، بعد خمس سنين، إذا وصلنا لهون، فالفضل إلكن. شكراً لأنكن كنتوا جزء من هالرحلة، ولأنكن بقيتوا مهتمّين، وضلّيتوا تقروا، تسألوا، وتفتّشوا عن الحقيقة. خلّيكن مهتمّين.
